The pink bows pillow and the pink baby quilt are finished! The pillow is a gift for a mother to be. The quilt is for the baby girl who is joining their family soon!
Here are loads of pictures… ENJOY!
I know, pillows don’t belong in baby cribs, but it looks so cute for the picture! ๐
Don’t those little booties just look perfect with these quilted gifts? We also have a gorgeous pink outfit with a bunny on it to go with these other gifts…WOW PINK! Hooray for little girls! ๐
I had to add some pink fabric for the back as the white fabric just was not big enough. In this picture you can see how I quilted the border. I just followed the swags on the front. The little squares were quilted in a dogwood pattern from a tutorial of Oh Fransson!
I really love the pinstripe effect of this type of binding. I found the tutorial on 52quilts. I did not change the size of the binding strip as I had suggested before in the blog post on the charity quilt. After trying it for the second time, I think it works better when I follow the instructions of this tutorial, so don’t change a winning team, right?
The perfect matching fabric for the binding was to be found at the quilt shop. It picks up the little dark flowers on the mitered border, and goes with the stripes and checkers. Sadly the selvage does not tell us anything… so I don’t know what it is called! When I go back to the quilt store, I will ask the nice lady there!
I have used all kinds af fabric: some are vintage, others regular cotton and some are quilter’s cottons. I had lots of fun making these gifts and I will definitely tackle a project like this again, just maybe without the time pressure! Actually I am a little ahead of schedule, but other projects have “switched places” on my to-do-list… I need to tackle those too next week.
I think I will not use the very thick white vintage fabric again. It is way too thick and does not FMQ-up very nice. It is a bit rough, I think personally. On the other hand, it is very durable and that is always good when it comes to gifts that children will use.
Info on construction:
Pillow: 4 paper piecing bow blocks, enlarged with border and then quilted with a stipple. I used one of my own bow patterns. Pattern was chopped down a bit to make sure the bows sat up higher on the pillow. Envelope style on the back in white sturdy fabric, pillow form from IKEA 20×20 inches.
Quilt: Trip Along the World technique, enlarged with one more row, mitered border, dogwood FMQ and bound with “Susie’s Magic Binding”, (Oops forgot to measure the quilt!)
I will link up with Crazy Moms Quilt for “Finish it Up Friday”, “TGIFF” atย Sew at Home Mummy,ย ย and Confessions of a fabric addictย for “Can i Get a Whoop Whoop?”ย tomorrow when their blog posts are up!
I hope that you, and the ones you love, are all well! I have seen too much suffering on tv this week, heard too many sad stories at work to let this opportunity to wish you well pass by! So: the best of luck, the best of health, and the best of fabric wealth! ๐

The finished quilt is adorable. All your pink fabrics work well together–I love mixing old and new. The miter in the corner border print is great–I keep working on that, and I love the binding technique and effect. I plan a binding like that in my near future. Thanks for sharing the link.
Thank you, you’re welcome! I was so happy when I found that tutorial! I just adore the effect!
